Make one joint easy to understand
- The result
- A trial joint and a short assembly card for a family to try. Record where more explanation or help is needed.
- Ready to use
- The kit exploration, proposed contents and first draft of the making booklet.
- Next
- Adjust the joint and instructions based on the trial. Then choose and test the finish and colour set.
A maker brief helps start the conversation. Downloading does not reserve a commission. Agree on scope, compensation, timing and use of the result before making begins.
- A plant holder with a separate watertight inner pot; the design is not intended for sitting on.
- Environmentally considerate material choices are the aim. The exact kit and its suitability are still being determined.
XO-DY / MB-01 / 22 Sep 2026 / working brief
Make a little place. Give it character.
Develop one bamboo plant-accessory kit that a family can assemble and colour together with an adult. Begin with a small plant stand, a character/name marker and an illustrated idea book. The image describes the mood; it is not a parts drawing.
The first maker assignment
Turn the concept into one buildable sample kit and a simple assembly sequence. Resolve the connection first, then the complete kit. Agree scope, fee and timing before starting. No production quantity or order is approved.
Proposed sample contents
| Part | Design intent | Still to decide |
|---|---|---|
| Bamboo structure + platform | Pre-cut, pre-drilled and smoothly finished; one small indoor plant | Dimensions, panel thickness, part count and stable footprint |
| Reusable connections | Adult-assisted assembly; few tools; replaceable parts | Connection type, tolerances, assembly force and fasteners |
| Character / name marker | Personalise with a name, face or pattern | Shape and attachment; no loose decorative extras in the first sample |
| Colour trial | Four concept colours, two brushes, protective sheet and bamboo test piece | Exact paint, volume, drying time, adhesion and finish |
| Plant insert | Removable watertight inner pot | Pot size and retention; supplied or clearly specified |
| Make & imagine book | Visual assembly, colour trial, care, repair and next-idea page | Illustrations and usability after testing |
A book a family can use
- 1. Match the unpacked parts to one clear picture.
- 2. Dry-fit the connection together with an adult.
- 3. Try the colour on the bamboo sample; follow the selected paint's instructions.
- 4. Assemble, check that it stands securely and add the inner pot.
- 5. Name the plant place; draw a charm stand, label or accessory for a future version.
- 6. Care and repair: remove the pot for watering, clean as instructed and replace damaged parts.
Existing candidates
These candidates were already in the research. Mention does not imply contact, availability or partnership. First ask for technical fit and samples; request comparable production quotes after the design choices are settled.

What the maker returns
- An annotated drawing with dimensions in mm, materials, tolerances and a versioned parts list.
- One connection sample, then one complete sample kit with the proposed inner pot and colour test pieces.
- An assembly card and observations from an adult-assisted family trial.
- A proposal for the finished kit's age range, intended use and required product assessment before sale.
- Separate estimates for design, sample making, material trials and a later production route. Quantities and budget remain open.
Ready for the next step when…
A family can identify the parts and follow the revised pictures; the maker has assessed connections and stability; water handling, finish and cleaning have been tested; and the exact set and age positioning are recorded. Environmental claims need evidence for the selected materials. Adult supervision does not replace product assessment. The idea competition is still a proposal; no prizes or submission programme are open.
